Hj Sallim Abdul Kadir, BBM, PBM, JP

Chairman

 

Hj Sallim is a board member of Yayasan Mendaki and a member of Muis Council (2004 – present) and Chairman of various sub committees in those organisations. His other key contribution is his role as a Board Director of Warees Investment Pte Ltd (2005 – present). He oversees Warees Investments’ role of managing wakaf properties and development projects.

In 2018, he was appointed as a Justice of the Peace, an appointment by the President of Singapore for outstanding Singaporeans who have made significant contributions in their professions, the public service, social services and the community at large. Hj Sallim was also awarded The Public Service Star 2018 and is a Muis50 Distinguished Award recipient.

He is also a member of MediShield Life Council, a Board member of Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore and a member of NCSS Services Committee. He serves as a member of Institutional Disciplinary Advisory Committee and BOVJ for Singapore Prisons and BOV of SAF Detention Barracks. He is also active in the Board of other non profit organisations and various governmental committees. He is currently also a HR advisor to AFL Technologies and a non executive Director of Etiqa Insurance Pte Ltd.

Ustaz Mohd Kamal Mokhtar

Ustaz Mohd Kamal Mokhtar completed his tertiary education in National University of Singapore (NUS) and graduated from Science Faculty with B.Sc. in Zoology and Botany. He obtained Diploma in Arabic Language from Islamic University of Medina in 1993. He proceeded in Faculty of Hadith and graduated with BA (Hons.) in Hadith and Islamic Studies in 1997. In 2006, he graduated from Shari’a Advisory Training Program jointly conducted by PERGAS (Singapore Islamic Scholars & Religious Teachers Association) and IIIF (International Institute of Islamic Finance). He graduated in Master of Science (Finance) from International University of Malaysia, IIUM in 2015.

He is currently a Shariah Committee member of Maybank Islamic Berhad since 2015. He also serves as a Judge at the Shariah Appeal Court of Singapore. Ustaz Kamal was a Senior Sharia’a Advisor and Research Analyst at SHAPE Financial Corporation, Kuwait, where he supports in formulating Sharia’a fund and Sukuk structuring and monitoring of the projects in the GCC, US, Europe and Southeast Asia from 2009-2013. He is an Associate Member of the Fatwa Committee of Majlis Ugama Islam Singapore (MUIS), a Member of Muis Halal Standards Committee, a Member of the Asatizah Recognition Board which accredits and monitors the qualification of Asatizah in Singapore, and a Shariah Committee of Basil Fund, a private Real Estate Investment Company based in Singapore.

Dr Rufaihah Abdul Jalil

Dr Rufaihah Abdul Jalil is an award-winning academic and scientist. As an Assistant Professor at the Department of Surgery, NUS, Dr Rufaihah has been delving into the world of research for many years, even attaining awards for the work that she has done including the prestigious Junior Chamber International Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World, Singapore Honoree under the Science/Technology Category. With a fellowship, she had the opportunity to further her postdoctoral studies at Stanford School of Medicine in California.

With so many accolades and achievements under her belt, she was also awarded the Aura Hawa Award by PPIS, which recognises the contributions made by Muslim women in the community. A mother of twins as well as the founder of Granada Academy, she set up an initiative to bridge the Malay/Muslim-science disconnect as well as to inspire Malay/Muslim children and youth to consider a future in science and engineering. She is also a member of Muis Council and actively contributes to the research and discourses on life sciences, medicine, and Islamic bioethics at the Fatwa Council and the Office of Mufti.
